Write yourself a love letter? You might think I’ve gone crazy. But I think it is such a good and simple way to show yourself some appreciation. It doesn’t have to be 8 pages, just start writing.
Writing yourself a love letter is a great way to forgive yourself for what you did in the past, appreciate yourself as you are right now, and get excited about the future.
You can write it for a specific version of your past or future self, or a general one. Maybe something happened in the past and you’d like to talk to yourself about it.
If it’s a bit difficult to get started, remember that you are the only person that will ever see the letter. No one ever has to read the words you write to yourself. If it is still difficult, imagine yourself as a small child. Maybe it’s easier to get an old picture out and write it to that girl or imagine you’re writing to another small girl you know. Tell her everything you want her to know. The things you’d tell your past self.
If you’re not much of a letter person, see if it works to write it as 10 tips. Or 10 things you’d tell your 5-year old self.
Be kind to yourself, let your words flow out on the paper and see what you come up with. Write yourself a love letter. To get you started, here is mine.
You deserve the best. You deserve to be loved, and you deserve to love. You are valued. For your inside and outside. But mostly you have to value & love yourself. See your own potential. See your own value.
When you look in the mirror, notice how beautiful you are. Notice the softness of your body, the sparkle in your eyes.
When you read or write, notice how amazing your mind is. Everything you notice going on in there and realize that it’s not even the smallest part of what is actually happening.
You cannot even fathom the things your body is doing every second of every day simply so you can stay alive. So you can be on earth, fulfilling your purpose. Because you have one, trust me.
You are divine. Divine spirit put on earth. An angel in a human body. There is a shining white light inside you; brighter than the beach on a sunny day.
So nurture it. Love it. Take care of it. Follow it.
Love yourself. You are always on the right path, but sometimes you have to change the direction your path is going in. And that is okay.
Love yourself, love where you are and trust the process. Everything is as it should be, even if you don’t agree with it. It will be okay.
